The Cemetery Of Negativism is a unique and thought-provoking landmark located within the prestigious Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in Baguio City, Benguet, Philippines. Far from a traditional burial ground, this symbolic site serves as a constant reminder for cadets to "bury" their negative thoughts, doubts, and fears. It's an interesting art installation and a powerful motivational tool, encouraging a positive mindset and resilience crucial for military training and life.
Opting for accommodation near the Cemetery Of Negativism offers budget travelers a unique blend of convenience and exploration. Staying close allows for easy access to the historical and cultural significance of the Philippine Military Academy, providing a deeper understanding of national heritage. The area is well-connected by public transportation, primarily jeepneys, making it incredibly easy and affordable to explore other popular Baguio attractions without breaking the bank. While PMA itself offers a serene atmosphere, its proximity means you're just a short ride away from Baguio's vibrant city center, bustling with numerous budget-friendly dining options and lively markets.
The Cemetery Of Negativism is renowned for its symbolic function rather than traditional historical events. It is a popular, albeit unusual, attraction within the PMA campus, serving as a powerful psychological tool for cadets. Here, they are encouraged to write down their negative thoughts and symbolically "bury" them, fostering a mindset of optimism and determination. While there isn't a peak to climb or a dedicated museum at its immediate base, visitors can explore the broader PMA campus, appreciate the various monuments and historical markers, and reflect on the unique purpose of this installation. It's an opportunity to witness a core part of PMA's character development program and appreciate the quiet discipline instilled in future military leaders.
While the Cemetery Of Negativism itself is a point of reflection, its location within the Philippine Military Academy opens up a host of other budget-friendly activities. Explore the expansive PMA grounds, visit the PMA Museum to learn about its rich history, and watch the cadets in their daily drills (if timing permits). Beyond PMA, easily accessible nearby attractions perfect for budget travelers include Camp John Hay for scenic walks and eco-trails, The Mansion, Wright Park for horseback riding, and the Baguio Botanical Garden. All these sites are reachable via affordable public transport, offering a full day of exploration without spending much.
Reaching the Cemetery Of Negativism, located within the Philippine Military Academy, is straightforward and budget-friendly. From Baguio City's central areas like Burnham Park or Session Road, you can take a jeepney directly to PMA. Look for jeepneys with "PMA" on their signboards. The fare is very affordable, making it the ideal choice for budget travelers. Taxis are also an option for a more direct, but slightly more expensive, ride.
