Though most travels involve more or less money in some way, there’s still a good chance you can enjoy your visit to a particular place without having to take your wallet out.

Don’t believe us?

Well, here are three activities you can do in Bacolod that will still let you experience the city at its finest even if it’s just for free.

Go on a Heritage Tour in Silay City - Dubbed as one of the Philippines’ “museum cities” along with Ilocos Sur’s Vigan, this is a place where one can get lost for hours. From rows of houses that were turned into museums to even monuments scattered across the city, there are plenty of sights you can visit. You can even download a heritage map for your convenience.

If you have a few bills to spare, you can even go inside the museum houses to get a glimpse of what it was like during its heydays.

Some famous heritage sites you can check out include the Balay Negrense, Bernardino-Jalondoni Museum or more famously known as the Pink House, El Ideal Bakery, and Ramon Hofileño Heritage House. You can also visit the San Diego Pro-Cathedral, the only pro-cathedral outside Metro Manila. However, even if you just roam around the city is worth it already as everywhere you look feels like a moment of history. It’s not dubbed as the “Paris of Negros” for nothing.

Visit the San Sebastian Cathedral - This late 19th Century church was built in 1825 and boasts a magnificent architecture that survived throughout time.  Visitors will be able to see the original church bells preserved and placed in the churchyard aside from the preserved artistry of the place. It also has a columbarium that houses the remains of the first and second bishops of the Diocese of Bacolod. Today, it seats the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bacolod.

Experience the MassKara Festival - The world-renowned festival is one of the many festivals one should experience in the Philippines. Held every October, this one huge celebration lasts for about a month. People from all over the world fly just to experience this wonderful and colorful celebration – very fitting as it is called the “Festival of Many Faces”.
