What with everything that has happened in the past year, we’re pretty sure that wherever and whatever kind of travel you’ll be able to do this year will be quite memorable. Humor aside, however, people should treat each travel as special and as unique as the places you want to visit. This is because every travel or vacation comes with unique memories. Here are a couple of tips to make this year’s travel – and the years to come – more memorable for you.

1. Research and plan well

Nowadays, researching for your travels involves a lot of things. Not only do you need to research the places and activities you can visit and do, but you also have to research how safe the place could be during this time – and we’re not just talking about the dangers of being in a new place. Yeap, we’re also talking about the pandemic situation.

But even if the pandemic has long since passed, you’ll be able to plan your trip better if you research well. This will also help you budget your travels better, and prepare yourself both physically and mentally for the upcoming trip.

2. Make a conscious effort in traveling

The world as we know it is still beautiful. But we’re seeing the negative effects of our past actions and the way we’ve been living slowly manifest itself. From global warming to animal extinction, we can see that the Earth can expire if we don’t start doing something about it.

Start making a conscious effort to travel sustainably. By doing this, it’ll make your trip that much memorable because you’re making a difference in the world. You can check out our article about “Sustainable Tourism” if you want to know more here.

3. Embrace the culture

Traveling shouldn’t just be about taking a nice break from your life. It should also be about discovering and exploring what the world has to offer. Embracing the culture of the place your visiting can be done through a lot of things. You don’t necessarily have to live exactly how the locals do but trying and immersing yourselves can be a start. Try eating local cuisines at local places and not just the highly commercialized ones. In doing so, you’re unconsciously creating memories that you won’t be able to do in other places.

4. Live in the present

In this digital age, it’s easy to lose ourselves in the present. This inevitably lessens our time to actually live and experience the moment as it should be. Put your phones and cameras down, and take time to take it all in. If there’s anything this pandemic has taught all of us is that life is full of surprises. Live it as if it’s your last.

5. Explore the off-beaten path

To make your travels that much memorable, don’t solely focus on visiting the top tourist attractions. Explore places that aren’t so popular. This is where research comes in handy. You’ll find that these can greatly help you create a unique and memorable trip.

If you haven’t done it yet, try to keep an open mind when it comes to traveling starting this new year. It’s great that you have a well-organized trip planned out, but do remember that there are things that cannot be planned at all, and most often than not they make the best memories.

It may still be a while before we can travel spontaneously even this new year, but hopefully, things will pick up very soon. You can even read up on our article about jumpstarting your plans this 2021 and follow these tips to make them more memorable.
