My partner and I celebrated our anniversary differently this year. We decided to take a trip to the north with no plans, just a hotel booking where we will stay for the next three days. Our main goal for this getaway was to go to Vigan without an itinerary and figure out the rest when we get there.
We rode a bus bound to Vigan on New Year’s Eve and we literally welcomed 2020 on the road. We arrived there at one in the morning and got informed that our accommodation was still closed since we arrived earlier than expected. Luckily, there’s a RedDoorz Hotel (La Casa Ramirez) nearby and fortunately enough they still had a spare room for us to rest, thank God! Not part of the actual plan but we didn’t even have a plan in the first place anyway.
It’s always our habit to visit churches of every place we traveled to. So we decided to visit and roam around historical places in Vigan and enjoyed the scenery of the lights during night time. The place was so beautiful and the people were so nice. After a long day of sightseeing, we ended up attending the evening mass at Vigan Cathedral.
Luckily, there was also an event at their wide fountain area where we watched the amazing dancing lights. It was crowded but we had fun watching the kids with their parents while enjoying the show. I guess that was the highlight of our first night.
We were planning to stay in Vigan for three days but we cut the vacation short since we already saw what we wanted to see during our first day. On our last day, we went to the Hidden Garden in the morning and went straight to Baluarte Zoo in the afternoon.
The Baluarte experience was amazing but since it was extra hot that day we decided not to go inside and check the animal sanctuary but were able to roam around the nearby museum. After that, we went back to the plaza to check if there’s still available trips bound to Manila. After checking, we hurriedly went back to our hotel and packed our things. It is highly recommended to buy your bus tickets from Vigan to Manila days before your date of travel since it's on first come first serve basis, but we were lucky enough to be able to secure the remaining two slots.
Everything that happened during our trip wasn't part of our original plan but it was surely memorable. I’m the type of person who wants everything to be planned ahead because I don’t want to encounter problems along the way. And this trip is one of the things in my bucket list, I am happy that I was able to do something different like going to places with no plans at all. Perhaps having someone beside you who’s willing to be adventurous as you, makes it fun and exciting.
