The Northwestern region in Luzon has always intrigued many tourists both locals and foreigners alike. Though La Union remains to be the most popular destination between the four provinces that encompasses this part of Luzon, Ilocos (Norte and Sur) is still considered somewhat of a mystery for most tourists. The travel time may have something to do about this.

But what if we told you that it’s precisely the journey that makes Ilocos one of the best provinces to visit for a road trip? Even with the opening of the Laoag International Airport, traveling to Ilocos via land is still very much worth it.

With sprawling forests and hills, ocean view and breeze, and quaint little towns as your background, the road trip may look unexciting but it is for this reason that makes going to Ilocos a good escape especially if you’re experiencing quarantine fatigue.

Once you get to Ilocos, however, that’s when the adventure starts and having a vehicle to go around will make this journey a lot easier. Here are some notable attractions and spots in Ilocos you should include on your list for this road trip.

Paoay Church (Paoay, Ilocos Norte) - Also known as St. Augustine Church, Paoay Church is a Spanish baroque-style built-in 1710. Its famous facade has been the background of many photos since its construction. It has since been declared UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Pgudpud (Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte) - Called the “Boracay of the North”, Pagudpud is a coastal town located at the northernmost tip of Ilocos Norte. Though it is as beautiful as it,  it has so much more to offer apart from its pristine coastline as it holds several windmills stretching towards Bangui’s. It’s also a favorite spot for surfers.
