Dubbed as “The City of Golden Friendships”, Cagayan de Oro sits right in the middle of Northern Mindanao, with Bukidnon, Camiguin, and Agusan del Norte surrounding it. Because of its location, it’s the perfect place to start if you plan on traveling to this particular area of Mindanao.

Cagayan de Oro or CDO (as it's more commonly used) is such a vibrant province and filled with a richly diverse culture that you wouldn’t run out of things and activities to do. From appreciating mother nature to its rawest beauty to an adventurous trip filled with some extreme white rafting, visitors will surely have a hard time leaving this place.

Though we recommend staying for longer periods, we know that some of you might not have the luxury of time to spend. So if that is your case, then here’s a simple guide we made on how you can spend 3 days and 2 nights in Cagayan De Oro City.

Firstly, there are plenty of ways you can travel to CDO. Flights are abundant wherever you are coming from within the country, and flight promos are everywhere. However, you can start your adventures by riding a ferry/bus.

If you’re coming from Manila, a ferry ride would roughly take you 30 hours of travel time. While a bus trip will take at least 42 hours.

Day 1

Assuming you will be arriving during this time, take a relaxing morning, checking into your hotel (RedDoorz), and just rest for a bit before you start your CDO adventure. By lunch, there are plenty of places and restaurants in CDO that you should try. From budget meals to the more expensive ones, you can start your adventure by filling your belly.

Once you have your fill, why don’t you try exploring nature and try on some activities? You can visit the Mapawa Nature Park and go horseback riding, biking, zipline, and even nature trekking. This will surely prepare you for a more fun and adventurous trip tomorrow.

Lastly, there’s nothing like capping off the night and preparing for tomorrow’s adventure with a nice warm and filling dinner. You can go on a food trip to Divisoria, Corrales, or Limketkai Mall.

Day 2

Get an early start to your day and pack it with some nature experience you’ll surely forget. You can spend a day visiting provinces like Camiguin and Bukidnon, however, make sure to plan in very well and check all transportation and travel times so you will have a more efficient trip.

But if you’re good with just exploring CDO, there are still plenty of places you can visit like Catanico Falls, Mintugsok Falls, Manlumot Falls, Sinulom Falls in the boundary of Cagayan and Bukidnon. You can take on the rapids of the mighty Cagayan de Oro River in White Water Rafting/Kayaking/River Tubing. You can also visit nearby towns of Opol, Balingoan, and Medina to go swimming, snorkeling, and even diving.

You can fill this day with all the nature adventures as much as you can since it’s the only full day you can exhaust within your trip.

Day 3

Depending on what time you’ll be leaving – we suggest leaving late afternoon or even during the evenings, there are still a few things you can do around CDO to maximize your short stay. You can go on a short trip to The Garden of Malasag to experience an eco-tourism village. You can also take a visit to some historical and tourist spots like Plaza del Heroes, City Museum of Cagayan de Oro and Heritage Studies Center, Vicente de Lara Park, Gaston Park, and Saint Augustine Metropolitan Cathedral.

You can also take this last few hours to buy some pasalubongs before heading back home. You can check out Cogon Market and Ginama for all your pasalubong needs. There are also certain local delicacies that you can easily buy at the local supermarkets like Gaisano and SM.
