The Tuna Capital of the Philippines is a city that continues to emerge every year. Through its many industries like agriculture and - of course - fishing, we’ve seen how Gensan thrives, making a name for itself.

Another industry that’s slowly gaining traction is tourism. Because of the ongoing efforts of the local government and community, Gensan is becoming one of the must-visit places in the country. Though it still has a long way to go compared to other tourist destinations in the Philippines, we won’t be surprised if Gensan is already on your travel bucket list.

Before you go visit popular destinations outside the city such as Lake Sebu and Balut Island, there are a couple of places you can visit while you’re in Gensan. If you don’t know where to start, let this list be your guide.

Sarangani Highlands Garden and Restaurant - Get a spectacular view of both land and water when you visit Sarangani Highlands. This restaurant and garden is the perfect place to relax and enjoy some good food even if you’re just by yourself.

Plaza Heneral Santos - You won’t have a hard time locating this plaza as it is literally in the center of things. Placed as a rotunda, this plaza near the City Hall becomes alive especially at night with lights and sounds coming from street food vendors and locals hanging out. One notable monument of General Paulino Santos, whom this city is named after, can also be found here.

Tiongson Arcade - One of Gensan’s popular tourist attractions is the Tiongson Arcade. It is a chain of food courts where not just food lovers will enjoy but pretty much everyone else. It’s a famous night market for both locals and visitors alike.

Sanchez Peak - Another great way to see a panoramic view of Gensan is to climb up Sanchez Peak. The hike going up will surely be peaceful and beautiful as you’re surrounded by nature. It’s an easy trek that even first-timer hikers will surely enjoy. Plus, you can rent tents at the peak should you wish to stay overnight.

MSU Gensan Museum - The Mindanao State University Museum is a great place to start if you want to get to know the culture and the artistic side of Gensan. This is also a wonderful way to help with all the indigenous tribes that are residing in South Cotabato. As well as, to bridge the youth with the history of the place.
