Covid-19 has certainly caused a great deal of anxiety, fear, loss, stress, and more in our lives, especially in the beginning. This was the first time all of us - all over the world - experienced this pandemic; and even though we had history to learn from, everything was new, making it that much more terrifying.

But thanks to the endless efforts of scientists and medical experts, workers, and practitioners, health and safety measures were made that enabled the spread of the virus to slow down. Thus, giving enough time for them to learn, study and create a vaccine to fight it.

Some of these measures were inspired by how previous pandemics were handled such as quarantine and social distancing.

Now, we are far from fully eradicating this virus in our country. Although people are starting to get fully vaccinated, a big percentage of our population is still at risk of getting infected. So, if you’re not yet fully vaccinated and had close contact with someone who tested positive for Covid, here’s what you need to do.

QUARANTINE

COVID-19 can take up to 14 days to make you sick, and some people with COVID-19 never feel sick or what is called asymptomatic, so you need to separate yourself from others so you don't spread the virus without knowing it.

For fully vaccinated people, watch for symptoms of COVID-19. Stay home and away from others if you start to feel sick. Get tested. Some, but few, people can still get COVID-19 after being fully vaccinated when they have had close contact. Remember, you are only considered fully vaccinated if it has been at least two weeks since the final dose of the vaccine.

STAY HOME AND MONITOR YOUR HEALTH

For quarantine, you can choose to stay home should your symptoms remain at best none to mild. You have to check your Covid symptoms, day by day to make sure that it’s not getting worse.

There’s also an option for you to stay at quarantine facilities. In the country, these facilities are often accredited by the Department of Health, the Department of Tourism, and the Bureau of Quarantine. You’ll find that most of these are hotels and places of accommodations, making your quarantine stay a lot easier.

GET TESTED

After 14 days of quarantine, it is best to get tested to make sure that you no longer have the virus.

Should your Covid symptoms worsen, it’s best to let your doctor know or your local health officers to best know whether you need to be hospitalized or not.

These simple health measures can help slow the spread of the virus. Make sure to properly follow these guidelines not just for your own benefit, but for those who are around as well.
