The pandemic has clearly changed a lot of things in our lives. Traveling is one of them.

There are so many things to consider right now when you’re planning to travel. From documents, you need to present to travel and medical guidelines you need to follow, planning any kind of travel right now can seem pretty daunting. Add more to that the new travel terms that are being used currently.

Some of them might be familiar such as community quarantine levels. However, given the many revisions and customizations made by the  Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases or IATF (for short), it’s not at all surprising that many of us have become quite confused.

Don’t worry as we’ll try to list all of them down to make it easier for everyone. This is base on the updated version as per IATF.

Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) - To put it simply, ECQ is the highest and strictest level of community quarantine, which is equivalent to a total lockdown.

  • Limitations on all forms of transportation

  • Strict curfew implementation

  • Work suspensions and the setting up of alternative working arrangements such as work-from-home setups

  • Ensuring the supply of food and medical products

  • Measures against profiteering and hoarding of essential goods

  • A provision allowing a 30-day grace period for loan and rental payments during the quarantine period

  • Cancellation of mass gatherings

  • Closure of non-essential businesses

  • 24/7 opening of essential businesses and utilities in 100% operational capacity

Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) - The modified version of the ECQ is less strict but still following most of its guidelines.

  • NOT ALLOWED - indoor dining; indoor sports, courts or venues; indoor tourist attractions such as museums, libraries, galleries; outdoor tourist attractions; meetings, conferences, exhibitions

  • Outdoor sports such as biking and jogging are only allowed in areas of residences

  • Outdoor dining is limited to 50%

  • Religious activities, wakes, weddings, and baptisms are at 10%

General Community Quarantine (GCQ) - GCQ is generally less stringent than ECQ. Public transportation is allowed at a reduced capacity and select businesses are allowed to operate at 50 to 100 percent of their regular capacity depending on their industry. Shopping malls are also allowed to operate, although only select stalls and stores are allowed to open.

  • 50% Capacity - indoor dining; indoor sports, courts or venues; indoor tourist attractions such as museums, libraries, galleries; outdoor tourist attractions; meetings, conferences, exhibitions; personal care services; gyms

  • Outdoor dining is allowed

  • Religious activities, wakes, weddings, and baptisms are at 30% but can increase to 50%

Currently, Metro Manila and Bulacan are under this community quarantine level.

General Community Quarantine with heightened restrictions - Just like the previous one, this modified version of GCQ was only recently implemented.

Currently, Rizal, Laguna, and Cavite are under this community quarantine level.

Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) - refers to the transition phase between GCQ and the New Normal, when the following temporary measures are relaxed and become less necessary. To put it simply, this is the lowest form of community quarantine.

NCR Plus - The term was coined last May to describe the bubble for Metro Manila, Rizal, Bulacan, Cavite, and Laguna.

Green Lane - Green Lane is a term proposed by the Department of Tourism to IATF which aims to make it easier for fully vaccinated travelers to visit the country for leisure as quarantine rules are being relaxed with the progress of the vaccination worldwide.

P2P - No, we’re not talking about the P2P bus here. The term P2P is currently being used for charter flights that offer point-to-point (P2P) air travel for leisure purposes and staycation programs subject to the observance of minimum public health standards. It can get pretty expensive though.

Travel Pass - By definition, a travel pass is the privilege of a passenger to move around without being restricted. In the current status of our country, however, a travel pass or specifically the IATA Travel Pass is a digital health app that validates and authenticates all country regulations regarding COVID-19 passenger travel requirements.
