This Valentine’s Day doesn’t just focus on celebrating your love with your significant other. Show your love for your parents as well.

The commercial world may be centralizing this holiday towards the romantic kind of love. But the truth is that, the day of hearts of all about all kinds of love. It’s the day where we can all show how much we love every single person in our lives and celebrate it the best way possible. Take note though, love should be celebrated every single day.

Now, this holiday can get quite expensive with all the gifts and holidays you’re planning, but it doesn’t have to be. You can show your love even in the simplest way possible.

On this list, we’ll share seven affordable ways you can say those three little words to the first people who have loved you unconditionally – with the pandemic in mind of course.

Quality time

This may be difficult to do right now given we have a global pandemic. But if you live with your parents, this is something you can do easily. Spending quality time shows how much you care and value them. Even just having a conversation over food or drinks can be considered as quality time. Take it up a notch and spend time with them doing something they’re very fond of like cooking.

You can still achieve this even if you don’t live with them by doing things virtually like cooking together over zoom. This is one of the simplest ways you can say how much you love them every single day.

Do a drive-by

Thinking of their health and safety during this time is one of the greatest things you can do to show how much you love them. That being said, doing a drive-by to your parent’s house can be a great option if you haven’t seen them throughout this time. Make it more special by making a poster that says: “I miss you”, “I love you” or “We’ll be together soon”.

Create a scrapbook of memories

There’s nothing like making a scrapbook of some of your favorite memories with your parents. Include photos to make it much more fun and interesting. In this way, you can show how much you appreciate and love those times spent with them.

Plan a day together

Again, this may be quite challenging to do due to the pandemic, however, you can easily plan an at-home activity that includes all of you spending some time together. You can create your home movie theater, cook for them, or even host a game night. The important thing here is to spend it together.

Have their favorite restaurant meal delivered

If your parents are quite old and can’t get out of their house due to the pandemic, a simple way you can do to show your love is to have their favorite restaurant meals delivered to their doorstep. It doesn’t have to be from the most expensive restaurant but you can make it worthwhile and have a full meal delivered from appetizers to desserts. Nothing quite like food to say you miss and love them.

Write a handwritten letter

If you have a way with words, then writing a letter would be the easiest and most affordable way for you to say I love you to your parents. It may seem too much for some, but love letters are the sweetest things anyone can do for someone they care and love so much. Include all the things you’re grateful for your parents.

Embrace or Kiss Them

Another thing this pandemic has restricted all of us from doing is to embrace and kiss our loved ones. But if you can – safely, of course – then these small gestures: an embrace, a kiss on the cheek or forehead, and a hold of their hand are the best ways you can say I love you to your parents without having to spend anything at all.
